The Issues are in the Tissues...our body is trying to tell it’s story through dropped arches/ stiff feet, tight calves, aching knees, “sad” and slumped shoulders! What is responsible for our holding patterns? What blocks our movement in practice? Our biggest sensory organ-the extra cellular matrix called myofascia! Journey through the myofascial meridians/sheets and how they can be translated as culprits of havoc or fluidity in yoga practice and everyday life.
Join us at Breathe Salt for a journey through the myofascial meridians, a concept coined by Anatomy Trains, Thomas Myers. The issues lie in the myo(muscle)facial(connective tissue) meridians and it’s fluidity. It’s the biggest sensory organ/system in the body. It holds us, protects us and nourishes us. From a yogis standpoint, this myofascial matrix resides in pranamayakosha ( the energy body) says Doug Keller who uses the term Soma Sutras for these threads(sutras) that facilitates prana (life force) through the tissues. Through awareness of these ‘sutras’ in the pranamayakosha ;we can create space, power and stability not only in our asana practice but also in our everyday movement patterns.
Journey through the path of the ‘Soma Sutras’ , getting to know the primary function and common postural disturbances in each one. We will explore common holding patterns in movement and how to unravel the sutra that binds you. Starting from the feet to the cranium, we will discuss pronation/supination, o legs/ x legs, tilts and shifts in the pelvis, Ribs/ in relation to your hips...we discuss simple body analysis in order to start to recognize the Fascial lines and how their ‘drag’ has effected alignment in your asana practice.
The issues that are holding in the tissues can be of emotional nature, trauma or repetitive breath/ movement patterns. We will discuss the pranamayakosha and the connection Yoga/Ayurveda has to this modern day myofascial system.
Through practicing the principles of Yamas and Niyamas , we will finish up class in a fluid practice through the ‘Soma Sutras’.
